Man Utd edge closer to offloading lacklustre Ten Hag signing after Euro giants begin ‘working on’ deal

AC Milan have begun exploring a deal for Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund, who could be offloaded before the window closes.

As things stand, Hojlund’s future at Old Trafford largely hinges on whether Benjamin Sesko completes his anticipated move in the coming days.

United’s No.9 is then likely to depart, whether that be on loan or via a permanent transfer, despite him making it clear on numerous occasions that he wants to stay put at the club this summer.

Why Hojlund moving on would be a sign of change at United

If  Hojlund is made to depart against his wishes, you’d have to give credit to the board for being ruthless in their transfer approach.

For far too many years has there been players who just simply aren’t good enough have been kept around to avoid taking a financial loss. Yet now, INEOS are being somewhat proactive in recognising that the likes of Hojlund, who returned four Premier League goals in 32 appearances last term, don’t have what it takes to perform at the highest level every week.

Milan ignite pursuit of Hojlund with initial loan approach

According to Italian reporter Antonio Vitiello, Milan are ‘working on’ an agreement that’d see the Danish international join them on loan for the entirety of 2025/2026. Then, they would have the option – not obligation – of signing him on a long-term basis.

It’s a prospective switch that would allow the 22-year-old to return to Serie A, where he spent one campaign with Atalanta before United forked out £64 million for him in 2023.

This week, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Hojlund had turned down the prospect of joining RB Leipzig in a direct swap for Benjamin Sesko. It remains to be seen if the Milan opportunity would appeal to him more.
