Wegener succeeds Wölbern as Head of Investment Management at HDI Global SE

Commercial and specialty lines insurer HDI Global SE has announced the appointment of Dr Christian Wegener as Head of Investment Management.

HDI Global logoWegener is succeeding Thorsten Wölbern, who is moving to new challenges within the company after 15 years in the role.

In his new role, Wegener has been tasked with further optimising HDI Global’s risk-adjusted returns, refining the asset allocation process, and overseeing the company’s global foreign currency hedging operations and collateral management processes.

An investment and financial risk professional, the executive is joining HDI from the HSBC Group in London, where he oversaw the investment activities of HSBC’s life insurance entities in Latin America, Europe, and India.

Prior to that, he was serving as the Chief Investment Officer for HSBC in China. Wegener began his professional journey in the insurance industry with the AXA Group, working in Cologne, Paris, and Hong Kong.

Commenting on the new appointment, Dr Pasternak said: “I am very happy to have Christian joining our team, and I am confident that his international experience and investment expertise will be a valuable addition to our investment community and our own performance. I wish him every success in his new role.”

Going forward, Wölbern will be responsible for the mandates of PVI Insurance (PVI) and the UK Pension Trust.
