England defeated Spain 3–1 in the penalty shootout to win the 2025 Women’s Euro final. As the UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin handed out the silver and gold medals during the medal ceremony, a young girl was standing beside Prince William.

The Prince of Wales attended the final along with his daughter, Princess Charlotte, and was invited to present the gold medals to the England players. William was visibly thrilled with the victory — after all, football is coming home again with back-to-back titles in the event (2022, 2025).

Standing next to Prince William was a young girl named Greta, from Switzerland, who assisted him during the medal ceremony. Greta took part in a UEFA tradition that invites children with disabilities or special needs to join players and officials in official ceremonies. According to Mail, the 12-year-old has a genetic form of epilepsy.

The Reasons the Girl Was Standing Next to Prince William

The reason she is going viral is social media site X users were trying to figure out who she was and why she was standing next to Prince William and Čeferin. Turns out, she was chosen by UEFA to represent their foundation, which helps children create a better life through sport and education.

The Foundation regularly selects children supported by local nongovernmental organizations to take part in medal and trophy ceremonies or walk out onto the pitch during finals, giving them unforgettable experiences.

In its 10th anniversary season (2025), UEFA highlighted how one child from a foundation partner organization took part in the UEFA Champions League final medal presentation. This is part of a broader inclusion program known as the “Meet & Greet and Closing Ceremony,” which runs throughout finals season — and this year, it ended with England lifting the Women’s Euro trophy.
