According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Luciano Spalletti will likely include Samuele Ricci and Manuel Locatelli in his Italy squad in September, while Jorginho, Gianluca Mancini, Bryan Cristante, and Michael Folorunsho are expected to be dropped.

Italy return to the pitch in September after a disappointing Euro campaign for Nation League games against France and Israel.

Today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport predicts which players Spalletti could call up for the next two competitive matches.

According to the report, the CT will likely drop at least four players who were part of the EURO 2024 squad: Jorginho, Mancini, Cristante and Folorunsho.

Torino‘s Ricci and Locatelli’s Juventus will probably be included in the new team and it remains to be seen if Sandro Tonali will be part of the squad given that his 10-month ban ends on August 28 while Spalletti will name his squad on August 30 or 31.

Two attacking players who must be assessed are Nicolò Zaniolo, who is currently injured, and Federico Chiesa, who has been frozen out by Juventus.

Gianluca Scamacca is also injured, so according to Gazzetta, Spalletti will keep a close eye on Moise Kean, Lorenzo Lucca, and Andrea Pinamonti in the opening two Serie A games. Spalletti is also watching Burnley FC winger Luca Koleosho plus Giovanni Fabbian and Cesare Casadei in central midfield.

Gazzetta reports Spalletti will permanently switch to a three-man defence using a 3-5-2 or 3-4-2-1 system starting next month.
