Euro NCAP tests new cars in four key areas. These include Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable Road Users and Safety Assist Systems. The all-new Nexo performed exceptionally well achieving an impressive 90 percent score for Adult Occupant Protection and 85 percent for Child Occupant Protection.

Score was 76% for Vulnerable Road Users and 80% for Safety Assist systems. The tested vehicle had an LHD layout and was a base trim. This 5-Door SUV was produced in 2025 and the tested sample weighed 1910 kg. Front and rear airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, seatbelt reminders, ADAS features and others were standard fitment.

Excellent Crash Performance

In crash tests, the passenger area remained stable during the frontal offset impact, providing good protection for the legs and all important body parts. The Nexo also scored maximum points in the side barrier test and has a center airbag for added protection. Importantly, the seats provided good protection against whiplash injuries in rear-end collisions.

Child safety results were equally strong. New Hyundai Nexo earned maximum points for the safety of six- and ten-year-old child dummies in both frontal and side-impact tests, with all critical body areas well-protected. Nexo’s advanced safety suite includes an eCall system and technology to prevent secondary impacts after a crash. Euro NCAP also confirmed that the doors and windows can still be opened if the vehicle becomes submerged.

It has to be noted that the previous Hyundai Nexo was the first FCEV ever to be tested by Euro NCAP back in 2018, also earning a five-star rating at that time. The new Nexo’s five star ratings by Euro NCAP confirms Hyundai’s continuous progress in FCEV technology, setting a high standard for safety in the global hydrogen vehicle market.
