Lucy Bronze lifts her second European Championship in 2025
England defender Esme Morgan has credited Lucy Bronze for carrying the Lionesses to success at Euro 2025 in Switzerland.
There is no doubt that Lucy Bronze was one of the biggest parts of England’s Euros success this summer especially when the team looked down and out.
Although Esme Morgan only made one start during the tournament, Bronze’s impact on her was still monumental.
“There was just this sense of calm and I think we have a lot of belief in our team, in the talent that we’ve got … That we can turn any deficit around and we’re capable of beating anyone.” Morgan said.
“When you look around the pitch and see players like Lucy [Bronze], such an incredible leader, incredible competitor, a warrior…. A freak, her mindset is like nothing I have ever seen before.
“She lives for those moments where the team is counting on her, relying on her to pull out a moment of brilliance and that’s what she did to get the goal that started off the comeback.”
When England looked like they were heading home in the quarter-finals, Bronze stepped up once again.
The Lionesses were 2-0 down to Sweden with just 10 minutes left to play when the 33-year-old smashed a bullet header home to equalise.
England went on to win the game in dramatic fashion before advancing to the semi-finals against Italy.
“I don’t actually know for certain what was on the note [that she passed to Bronze during the quarterfinal], I didn’t look at it myself.

“But I joked that it said ‘Save us GOAT’ because Lucy’s just incredible and that’s what she read because she just became a women possessed for the rest of the match and carried us back to the comeback and a penalty through to the semis.”
The Lionesses are just 3/1 with Betting sites to complete a Euros hat-trick when the competition returns in 2029.
While England are fancied to win a third Euros in a row, they may have to do it without Lucy Bronze who will be 37 when the next tournament rolls round.
