Cristiano Ronaldo may be heading into his sixth and final World Cup in 2026, but the 40-year-old forward has not ruled out extending his international career to Euro 2028.

Ronaldo, who is under contract with Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr until 2027, has not set a retirement date.

That has fueled speculation he could play on either in Saudi Arabia or return to Sporting CP, potentially keeping him available for another European Championship.

Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown told GOAL that Ronaldo’s drive and fitness could carry him further.

“If he can bring something to the squad, why not pick him? “Brown said, noting that Ronaldo remains influential even when not starting every match, “He won’t retire from international football until he retires completely.”

Ronaldo is also chasing major milestones, including the elusive World Cup trophy and a historic 1,000 career goals. Brown believes the Portuguese star still dreams of lifting football’s biggest prize.

“He will want to win one. This is probably his last chance,” he said.

Portugal will learn their 2026 World Cup group on December 5 in Washington, D.C. The tournament concludes on July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium, where Ronaldo hopes to cap his career on the ultimate high.
