The Lionesses are back in camp for the first time since their historic Euro 2025 triumph, but the message from Sarina Wiegman and Alex Greenwood at St. George’s Park is clear – the squad must cherish the memories, but move on and refocus.
Having led the Lionesses to back-to-back European titles, Wiegman is no stranger to the challenge of turning the page on a major victory.
She emphasised that the process begins with perspective – honouring what was achieved, but quickly identifying how to evolve.
The England boss said, “I think that’s for everyone different. What we do always is of course celebrate, of course review what went well, what do we have to improve, what are the trends and how we can move forward.
“That’s how we approach it to the players. Of course the players will adapt to that in their own way when we try to support. Of course we don’t ever push away what we have achieved because that’s very special.
“We always cherish that, but we have to move forward too. Of course we already move forward because we’re next game tomorrow. Of course we want to stay on top.”
Defender Alex Greenwood admitted the latest camp feels “a little bit different” with new players and backroom staff joining the setup, but described the mood as positive and energised.
The 32-year-old explained, “Obviously having fresh faces is always nice. In terms of the backroom staff, they’ve been great so far.
“The training sessions have been really fun. It’s been nice to get to know them off the pitch as well. So far, so good.”
“Just to reiterate what Sarina said, it’s still important that we enjoy what we did in the summer. We haven’t just turned up and forgotten about it.
We’ve talked about it and I think we’ll continue to do that, but in the same breath we’re also focused on the next challenge, which is tomorrow and the next three games after that.”
