Ahead of the 555th “parkash purb” of first Sikh Guru Nanak Dev at Sri Nankana Sahib, the Pakistan’s Punjab province has asked Indian pilgrims to carry cash in foreign currency only, preferably the US dollars, and avoid bringing Indian currency.
Jathas from India will cross over to Pakistan on November 14 and return on November 23. Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Ramesh Singh Arora said due to complaints of not getting proper exchange rate for Indian currency, an advisory had been issued that they should get their cash converted into dollars or pounds, before coming to Pakistan.
“US dollar is the most preferred currency here and it commands the same international conversion rate which is applicable worldwide. If they bring the Indian currency here, they might get deceived as the money exchangers, especially the private ones, will not give them the apt exchange rate,” he said. Arora is also the Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs in Pakistan.
