Still stinging from EUROs, Bayern Munich’s Konrad Laimer wants to grow as a player

2 Min Read

Bayern Munich midfielder Konrad Laimer enjoyed the experience of playing for Austria at the EUROs, but is still stinging from his team’s exit at the hands of the Netherlands.

“I left the tournament with mixed feelings. At first it was great to win the group ahead of France and the Netherlands. In the end it was a bitter defeat in the round of 16 against Turkey. That hurt a lot – but that’s how changeable football is. It still had an effect on me on the first few days of my vacation. But that’s over, now I’m fully focused on the season and looking forward to football again,” said Laimer (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). ”I couldn’t sleep well the first few nights, individual game situations kept going through my head – and then in the middle of the night you ask yourself: Why? Why? What for? Sometimes I watch the games again to learn from the scenes. But even then you can’t undo it. That’s why the vacation was important: get away for a few days, clear my head, be with the family, just lie somewhere — and just stop thinking about football.”

Laimer is in for a tough road ahead given the competition in the Bayern Munich midfield. Those lessons learned could eventually come in handy as he will be in for a major battle for playing time.
