Marc-André ter Stegen, İlkay Gündoğan called up by Germany for Euro 2024

Two FC Barcelona players have been called up for Germany’s Euro 2024 squad. Marc-André ter Stegen and İlkay Gündoğan, two veterans for club and country, will be part of the team that tries to capture continental glory.

Ter Stegen is expected to be Manuel Neuer’s backup in goal. Neuer has been Germany’s #1 while healthy for a long time now, and that is not likely to change.

Meanwhile, Gündoğan could be a starter in midfield, as he was in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He had a strong season at Barcelona, and he would expect to at least play a role in the middle of the park.

Looking beyond Barcelona, the omission that has gotten the most attention is that of Mats Hummels. The Borussia Dortmund defender has been instrumental in getting the German club to the UEFA Champions League final, but he’s been controversially left out of the squad for his country.
