Roma are showing interest in a January move for Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee, GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano has revealed.
The Serie A side have reportedly made calls regarding the Dutch international in recent weeks, as Zirkzee is among United players who could be made available at the turn of the year.
The 24-year-old forward has played just 90 minutes of football under Ruben Amorim this term, making four cameos off the bench in the Premier League and one in the Carabao Cup.
West Ham are also believed to be interested in Zirkzee’s services ahead of the market reopening in January, with Man United yet to decide on the striker’s future.
Roma Eyeing Move for Joshua Zirkzee
Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, revealed that Man United are anticipated to make decisions over both Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo’s futures ahead of January.
The pair are claimed to be unhappy with their playing time at Old Trafford and could be on the move at the turn of the year, with Zirkzee wanted by several clubs across the continent:
“Amorim and the management of Man United are talking about the January window – the opportunities and what to do with the players who want to play more, Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee.
“For Zirkzee there is West Ham and also Roma have called in recent weeks. So Zirkzee will be an opportunity for several clubs, and we have to see what Manchester United want to do, if they want to let him go or not.”
Zirkzee joined United in a £36.5m deal from Serie A side Bologna last summer and made 49 appearances in his first season at Old Trafford, scoring seven goals and providing three assists.
The Dutch striker has dropped down Amorim’s pecking order following the summer arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, with his last Premier League start coming in April.
Zirkzee was an unused substitute in United’s 2-2 draw at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, which saw the Red Devils extend their unbeaten run to four games in the Premier League.
The ‘elite’ Dutchman has lost his footing in the national team picture amid his limited involvement at Old Trafford, missing out on a call-up for four straight international breaks.
Zirkzee was last called up to the Netherlands squad in November last year and has made six appearances for Oranje to date, scoring once.
